Michael Schumacher’s Early Career

In 1990, Michael Schumacher became the Mercedes-Benz team driver in the Sports Car World Championship and the German Formula 3 Champion. One year later in 1991, Michael Schumacher made his F1 debut at the Belgian Grand Prix as a replacement driver for the Jordan F1 team. One year on from that race he took his first F1 victory in Belgium, in a Benetton-Ford.

Michael Schumcaher surpassed his third and fourth place finishes in the Driver Championship in 1992 and 1993 by landing the 1994 World Drivers Title, which he dedicated to Aryton Senna – “the man who deserved to get it”. In 1995 Michael impressively defended his title by winning nine out of the seventeen Grand Prix races.

Michael Schumacher’s Ferrari Era

After four and a half years with Benetton, Michael Schumacher signed a contract with Ferrari in 1996, with the objective of bringing the World Championship once again back to Maranello. Under his influence, the Italian team restructured itself and only narrowly missed out on the World Title in both 1997 and 1998.

Michael Schumacher’s Silverstone Nightmare

The 1999 season was an emotional roller-coaster ride for Schumacher. At Silverstone he suffered the first serious accident of his career. The double fracture of his right leg he sustained forced him to withdraw from the Championship for six Grand Prix races. On his return in Malaysia, Michael celebrated a glorious come-back to the sport by aiding the Scuderia team to win the Constructors’ World Title.
